Progress worth celebrating
Renewables supplied 49.9% of the EU’s gross electricity consumption in 2025, up from 47.5% in 2024, according to provisional Eurostat data. That gives electric heating an increasingly renewable power supply.
Heat pumps are gaining ground too. EHPA reports that sales grew 13% in 2025, reaching 2.9 million across 21 European countries.
There’s still plenty to do. Renewables supplied just 27.4% of the EU’s heating and cooling energy in 2025. Replacing fossil-fuel boilers with heat pumps puts Europe’s increasingly renewable electricity to work heating our homes.
